Web searches – too much!

DNS is *not* the place to insert a search page, when an error occurs. There is a reason errors occur – to let the client computer know something is wrong. It is not simple to ‘guess’ that something is wrong since you idiots at Time warner cable and OpenDNS.org seem to think “oh, they must have typed something wrong.” No, I didn’t! And it shouldn’t be failing in the first place! It’s a perfectly valid lookup! Why your servers respond with fails for 3 out of 10 times for the same request is beyond my understanding!

quantum theory of politics

Isn’t it a problem that the news media takes polls, then broadcasts that information, *before* an election? Doesn’t that mean you’re poisoning the voting pool by giving people a different idea of what will happen?

  • polls say obama was gonna win tonight
  • but isn’t it possible that people saw that and said ‘hey, i gotta go vote’
  • and now clinton is winning because of it?

or, a more sinister example

  • polls say candidate A is gonna win
  • so candidate A supporters say “they’ll win, i don’t have to worry about voting”
  • yet candidate B wins by a few percentage points because of the people who decided to come out because of the poll?

does that sound *exactly* like the 2000 election?

Strange Aeons

There really is something to be said about reinventing the wheel.

It seems that every time a new game engine is created, it’s just recreating the same basic code that all the other engines already do. However, in my current project, it’s not a FPS, nor anything using fast camera movement most of the time.

A new engine was needed, one designed for a mostly static, but highly detailed scene. And it’s working out well. Normal game engines do not need to do mouse picking that converts to texture UV coordinates. I’m guessing that would have been a *severe* pain with someone else’s engine.

This Side Toward Enemy

I hate political debates for president. I’ve seen two Democratic and one Republican this year already.

They’re all trying to make complex issues into black and white. Won’t listen to each other. Just want to bash Bush (Democrats) rather than actually fix anything.

I know (so far) who I’ll be voting for, and the debates really have helped to shape that. It’s not what they’re saying. You can tell which ones actually know what they’re talking about. There aren’t many.
